Benchrest

Benchresting involves sitting at a bench with the front of the rifle supported on a rest and the butt supported in the shoulder. It is normally shot with telescopic sights at  25 yards indoors.

The targets are very small, in some events the 10 ring at 25 and 50 yards is just 2mm in diameter, so it is very much the ultimate in precision shooting requiring very good breath and trigger control. Now gaining much more in popularity to the extent that the makers of high end match rifles are now producing bench rest versions of their top models.

Images above are a benchrest target & a target rifle with telescopic sight typical of the type used for benchrest shooting. The target has an inner bull if this is taken out and a white surround left visible all the way round the shooter scores 11 points.
